The CT Lyric Opera & The CT Virtuosi Present Eugene Onegin
Eugene Onegin is an 1879 operatic masterpiece of Russia’s foremost composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and one of the best exaxmples of lyric opera. The story concerns a selfish hero (Onegin) who lives to regret his blasé rejection of a young woman's love, and his careless incitement of a fatal duel with his best friend.
Eugene Onegin (Russian: Евгений Онегин, Yevgény Onégin), Op. 24, is an opera ("lyrical scenes") in 3 acts (7 scenes). The libretto, organised by the composer and Konstantin Shilovsky, very closely follows certain passages in Alexander Pushkin's novel in verse, retaining much of his poetry.
Connecticut Lyric Opera and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra present a fully staged production with full orchestra. Sung in Russian with projected English supertitles.
Tickets: $25 regular, $20 senior, $12 student
