The CT Virtuosi presents Charles Gounod's Opera Faust
Charles Gounod's Faust draws upon the two-act play by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a literary classic based on the German legend of a man who sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for knowledge and power. Gounod’s opera does not attempt to match the breadth of Goethe’s masterpiece, concentrating instead on Faust’s romantic encounter with Marguerite (Gretchen in Goethe’s drama) and the tragic results of their liaison.
Connecticut Lyric Opera's new production, staged by Alan Mann, transports this timeless tale to present day Wall Street, and puts Faust in the role of a highly successful executive at a financial firm.
The fully staged production is sung in French with projected English supertitles, and features the acclaimed CT Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra conducted by maestro Adrian Sylveen.
Tickets: $25 regular admission, $20 Senior, $12 Student, $38 Patron (Premium seating with a glass of wine)
